SC4 Planetarium Experience (Fine Arts Building, Room 60) - SOLD OUT!

Ancient astronomers identified 7 celestial bodies that were different than the rest. The Sun and Moon were obviously different, but what about the 5 ancient planets – Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn? Can you find them in the sky? In this planetarium experience, Professors Patrick Wilcox and Jeff Van Hamlin will take you on a tour of the ancient planets and explain how ancient peoples identified planets among the stars. *Please scroll down to read the activity details listed below.*

Activity Notes:

  • The SC4 Planetarium Experience allows guests to learn more about our universe's planets in a portable dome planetarium.
  • We ask that all guests remove their coats and outdoor shoes before entering the planetarium.  Please wear socks or bring soft soled indoor slippers.  This is to keep the floor of the planetarium clean, and to prevent wear from hard-soled shoes on the inflated dome.
  • The 30-minute experience includes:
    • Brief orientation while visitors remove shoes and coats
    • Presentation in the SC4 Planetarium
  • While in the SC4 Planetarium, all guest belongings (i.e. shoes, coats, strollers, etc.) will remain in a locked, supervised area.
  • For awareness, the planetarium program will include moving images in a dimly lit dome.  Some visitors may feel dizzy at times.  If that happens, visitors should close their eyes for a few seconds for it to pass. This experience may not be suitable for guests who are prone to motion sickness.
  • Guests will be seated on the floor of the planetarium for approximately 20 minutes.  Limited number of padded floor cushions and chairs are available.
  • Wheelchair access is available.  Please indicate this when registering.
  • All strollers will remain in the briefing area for the entirety of the activity.
  • Please be aware of your session's designated start time.  We anticipate each session to fill.  If you miss your session's start time, please plan on attending the "Ask an Astronomer" session  at 1:30 PM.
  • A confirmation email will be sent after registration is successful.  Please bring a copy of the confirmation email (printed or digital) for check-in purposes.
  • Please notify us with any changes to your registration (cancelling or changes to the registered party size) by contacting Jessica Smith at 810-989-5789 or jasmith@sc4.edu.
